The French was founded on Instagram in 2018 out of a passion for casual-chic French style. More than just a cliché, I believe French style is about elegance and timeless design. I hope my style guides, wardrobe philosophy, and brand suggestions will help you to create a robust wardrobe that takes you through all of life’s moments.

The French was founded by me, Victoria Petersen. I’m an American from Connecticut living between Florida and Paris, France.
I started The French when I decided to re-do my wardrobe in 2018. I had been wearing the same style of clothing since college, and I felt I needed a serious wardrobe refresh. I started researching and came across the French wardrobe philosophy that resonated with me. I decided to share my process and inspiration on this site and on Instagram.
At the same time, I decided to rent an apartment part-time in Paris, something I had been dreaming about since leaving France more than 10 years ago. I spent time in France during high school and had always wanted to return to the country as an adult. I started making regular trips to Paris in 2017 and eventually settled in a small apartment in the 7th arrondissement in 2019.
